WHY SECURING MATTERS MORE IN A MINNESOTA WINTER
An open building in Eden Prairie in January is not the same problem as an open building in July. Questions we hear most
- How long does a board-up last?
- It is a temporary measure. A properly fitted board-up will hold through normal weather for weeks, and a tarp somewhat less, particularly through winter wind. It buys you time to arrange permanent repair — it is not a substitute for it.
- Will boarding up affect my insurance claim?
- Most policies expect a property owner to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage after a loss. Securing the building is generally that step. Photograph the damage before the board-up goes on, and keep the documentation. Coverage decisions are your carrier's.
- Can you tarp a roof in winter?
- It depends on the roof, the pitch, the ice, and the weather at the time. Some roofs cannot be safely accessed in certain conditions, and a provider will say so rather than put someone on it.
- Do you do the repair afterwards?
- No. We only secure. That is deliberate — it means there is no reason for us to make the securing job larger than it needs to be.
